Fascias, Soffits and Cladding

Fascias and soffits play a significant role in the protection and security of our homes, acting as a barrier to prevent moisture from penetrating your roof, leading to rot or decay. This will keep your property safe from structural damage and improve the overall appearance of your property. At Severn Windows, Welshpool, we also offer a wide range of cladding and finishing options, in a variety of colours for your home, out buildings or static caravans.

Fascias, soffits and our cladding options provide you with low maintenance as well as visually appealing aesthetics. Our products when professionally installed give you years and years of hassle free no maintenance protection from the brutal british weather. Once installed, you can rest assured that the protection of your property will be significantly improved. With uPVC fascias and soffits, they require little to no maintenance, perhaps an occasional clean from time to time, but aside from that, they will last for years to come.

So what are Fascias and Soffits?

A fascia is a roof board that can be seen on the edges of the rafters of the property. They are installed to protect the roof structure and the interior of the building from being exposed to the outside elements. They also help to block out the roof tiling, rain guttering and water pipes that are attached to the exterior of the roof. Fascias play a big role in creating a pleasing aesthetic to the home rather than leaving the exposed rafters on view.

Not all roofs have soffits installed. A soffit is an additional covering that sits along the edges of your roof and the adjacent walls of a house. The idea behind this installation is to protect the rafter from the elements. In the past few decades, wooden soffits have been replaced by aluminium and uPVC versions. These are far more durable and most cost-effective and do not suffer from the same issues timber soffits used to.

What are fascias made from?

There are three main materials our fascias are made from, Timber, uPCV and Aluminum. Some period properties and locations will have restrictions on the type of material you can use on your property, if you are unsure get in touch and we can help. So what are the differences between the materials?

Timber – This has been the most popular material for fascias and soffits over the past years, as it is relatively cheap. However this option does require regular maintenance and painting.

uPVC – It’s a long lasting and relatively maintenance free option for your Fascias and Soffits. uPVC is becoming increasingly popular as it’s much more durable than Timber.

Aluminium – Using the material as a fascia offers long-term benefits. One of the biggest downfalls of using aluminium is the installation costs compared to uPVC. While it will last as long, you will have to invest more upfront. There is very little maintenance with Aluminium and is proven to be very durable.
